Rachel Serra

PRINCIPAL

I am the principal architect for RAS Architecture, a life-long goal of mine. I was one of those lucky people that always knew what I wanted to be when I grew up.  I am well organized and driven, which has served me well as I received my baccalaureate in 2011 from the College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at the University of Arizona. I spent six years working for a small firm in Tucson, Arizona. Then early in 2017, I became a licensed architect, and a few months later, I opened my own firm.

As a young girl, I had the opportunity to tour many homes, traveling around Phoenix with my dad, a garage door repairman. Without pause, I would often ask people to show me their homes and many eagerly gave me a tour. My inquisitive nature opened many doors, and my determination and creativity helped me to explore space, noting how it made Barbie, my first client, and me feel. I spent countless hours constructing and deconstructing her home with my brother’s forgotten wooden blocks, and when the Arizona weather allowed I spent my time outside building forts in and around the bed of an old flatbed Ford pickup.

Born and raised in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona, I have always had a great appreciation for our sometime-hostile sometime-welcoming climate.  I strive to create spaces that respond to our environment as well as meet the needs of my clients. The Barrio Santa Rosa Courtyard House and the Canyon House in the Mercado District exemplify these priorities.

Architecture in its most fundamental form is shelter and in the most intimate form is home. We spend our lives in the built environment, and it is crucial that the space we live in give us a sense of place and home. Invite RAS to design, refine, and develop your space.
